Jingle All the Way: Santa, Reindeer, and Grinch at West TX Zoo

The Abilene Zoo's 2023 Christmas Celebration will feature Santa Claus and his magical reindeer. This is, in my opinion, the best Christmas Celebration in West Texas. I'm just saying this is fun with a capitol F.

The Grinch is the real-est Grinch I have ever met. He is so cool. The first time I had personally ever been close to a real live Grinch was at the Abilene Zoo. Along with that introduction, I got to snack on S'mores, drink hot cocoa, and take in the sights. Then I ran into the BEST nativity scene ever. The nativity scene was recreated by the folks at Beltway Church.

Then there's Santa Claus with his freaking reindeer. Is this awesome or what? This is the best time I've ever had. Ever! Executive Zoo Director Jesse Pottebaum took my wife and me around to where visitors can have their photo made with a REAL reindeer. Thank you, Mr. Pottebaum - those were the most super friendly and pettable reindeer.

OH! Let me not forget about the snow. Yes, it will be snowing at the Abilene Zoo (at the entrance). I swear the Abilene Zoo thinks of everything. The events at this year's celebration will include the incredible showing of lights throughout the park.

The Abilene Zoo has been completely redecorated for the holidays with lights, trees, and all sorts of Christmas decorations that should put anyone into a happy holiday spirit.

Director Pottebaum said, "There's also an ice-skating rink, a professional ice sculpture show, and you can experience the true spirit of the season by taking a 'Walk to Bethlehem' with a real live nativity scene put on by one of our local churches. Take in the magical lights display and experience a Caribbean Christmas as well. Finally there will be places where you can make some S'mores."

Make plans now to attend any day from December 15-23, 2023. Hours are 4-9 pm. This is a limited capacity event. Nonetheless, make this a family evening to remember complete with pictures of Santa and his trusty flying companions.

Tickets to the Christmas Celebration at the Abilene Zoo are $16 per person. Children age 2 and younger get in free. Purchase tickets online or call 325-676-6085. Walk-up tickets are still available at the gift shop window.
