Certain wings will be closed to visitors at all times. This protects new arrivals that have not been fully vaccinated or may have various types of parasites or skin issues. Current residents who have been vaccinated may be susceptible to new issues brought in by strays.
Owner Surrender Policy
As of October 27, 2022, owner-surrendered animals will be accepted under the following conditions:Surrenders must be scheduled between 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Only Abilene residents may surrender animals.
There will be a $25 fee for each animal surrendered, or litters at $50.Surrender Charges
All animals surrendered that are of appropriate age must be up to date on all vaccinations and be spayed/neutered. Proof from a veterinarian is required.
Animals must appear to be in good health, not dangerous, and not feral.
One fee that is quite noticeable is the surrender charges. If you have a pet you need to take to the shelter there will be a fee attached to it. See above for more details. Furthermore, there are some animals that are absolutely free as they are sponsored by citizens from around the big country.
