The Best Breakfast Taco In West Texas According To West Texans
If you've ever ridden around Abilene with your spouse on a Sunday morning, you've probably had the same conversation my wife Donna and I have had more than once:
"What do you want for breakfast?"
Around West Texas, that's usually followed by another question:
"Where can we get the best breakfast taco?"

After church recently, Donna was craving meatloaf while I was thinking about breakfast tacos. That conversation inspired me to ask our listeners on Facebook a simple question:
Where is the best place to get a breakfast taco in Abilene?
The responses poured in from all over the Big Country. More than 30 different comments came in, and while several restaurants received multiple votes, one place clearly rose to the top.
#5 Alfredo's
Alfredo's earned enough mentions to crack the Top 5. Many West Texans say it's a reliable stop when you're looking for a quick and tasty breakfast taco.
#4 Cindy's In Trent
This one surprised me.
I've never been to Cindy's in Trent, but several listeners mentioned it by name. Any place that generates that kind of loyalty deserves a visit.
#3 La Familia
Located on Grape Street, La Familia continues to be a favorite among locals. Their breakfast offerings received plenty of praise from Facebook followers.
#2 Oscar's
This was my personal pick.
Folks around the ACU area know Oscar's well, and I've always been a fan of their Ranchero Eggs with chorizo. If you haven't tried it, you may want to add it to your breakfast bucket list.
#1 La Popular
Or as many Abilene residents call it, "La Pops."
Whether you visit the location on Butternut, South First, or South Treadaway, one thing became clear from the Facebook comments: La Popular received more recommendations than any other restaurant.
When West Texans start talking about breakfast tacos, La Popular is the name that comes up over and over again.
Did We Miss Your Favorite?
As every Texan knows, discussions about tacos can get as passionate as discussions about football.
So now it's your turn. Did your favorite breakfast taco spot make the list, or is there another hidden gem in Abilene or the Big Country we need to try next?
