What Is the Walk for Freedom?

The Walk for Freedom has become one of Abilene’s most visible awareness events. Each year, hundreds gather to walk through downtown streets, carrying signs, wearing matching shirts, and sending a message of unity and hope. The goal is to raise awareness about human trafficking, an issue that affects millions worldwide, including right here in West Texas.

About Beyond Trafficking

Beyond Trafficking was founded in 2017 by Stephanie Andrade-Rocha, who has joined me on air many times to share her vision and personal journey. The organization provides safe housing, recovery support, and outreach to survivors across the region. They also run educational programs to help schools, churches, and civic groups recognize the warning signs of trafficking.

Why It Matters in West Texas

Abilene’s location along the busy I-20 corridor makes the region especially vulnerable to trafficking activity. That is why Beyond Trafficking’s work, and events like the Walk for Freedom, are so critical. The walk not only shows survivors that the community stands with them but also teaches participants how they can help fight exploitation in everyday life.

Event Details

This year’s walk will feature community booths, speakers, and opportunities for participants to get involved. Families, students, churches, and civic groups are all encouraged to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
