Abilene Market Days Is a Great Spot for Early Gifts

If you love finding something unique, getting a jump on Christmas shopping, or simply hunting for a bargain, Wylie Christian Church’s Market Days is returning to Abilene on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Market Days runs from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Wylie Christian Church, 6250 Buffalo Gap Road, and admission is free.

What I like about this event is that you really never know what you’re going to find.

I Learned Last Year That Christmas Shopping Can Start in September

I broadcast live from Market Days in September of 2025, and somewhere along the way I stopped being just the radio guy and became a customer.

I found some really cool writing pens with scriptures printed on them and picked up several for myself and some of my kids.

Then my wife and two of my daughters spotted some jewelry they absolutely fell in love with.

They walked away, and I quietly made my way back to the vendor’s table, bought the pieces, hid them away, and gave them as Christmas presents a few months later.

So yes, I can tell you from experience that Market Days is a pretty good place to start your Christmas shopping early.

You might also find birthday gifts, back-to-school clothing and shoes, personalized school supplies, or just one of those unusual items you didn’t know you needed until you saw it.

Part Flea Market, Part Craft Fair and Plenty of Goodies

Wylie Christian Church’s Market Days brings together the feel of a flea market, arts-and-crafts show, bake sale, and community gathering all in one place.

Vendors can offer everything from handmade creations and jewelry to clothing, toys, food, and yard-sale bargains.

Some of the items featured at previous Market Days have included:

• Sublimation tumblers
• Mini-tres-leches cakes
• Crochet creations
• 3D-printed items
• Jewelry
• Small toys
• Clothing and shoes
• Personalized gifts and school items

And that’s part of the fun. Every vendor brings something a little different.

This Church Holds a Special Place in My Heart

There’s another reason I enjoy telling people about Wylie Christian Church.

For more than a decade, Pastor Doug Roysden and the people of this church have opened their doors and allowed me to prepare Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for people who might otherwise spend those holidays alone.

We’ve welcomed veterans, military families, foster kids, elderly neighbors, and anyone who simply needed a meal and some company.

That kind of compassion tells you a lot about the people inside this church.

Their outreach continues throughout the year through programs helping local families, young people, and organizations serving the Abilene and Big Country community.

That’s why Market Days is more than a Saturday shopping trip. The money raised goes back into helping people.

And Yes, This Church Knows How to Rock

If you’ve ever attended a Sunday service at Wylie Christian Church, you also know they don’t exactly whisper their praise.

Pastor Doug leads the Wylie Christian Church Praise Band, and when they get going, it can feel more like a faith-filled rock concert than what some people might expect from Sunday morning church.

I mean that as a compliment.

They worship hard, serve hard, and take care of their neighbors.

Proceeds from Market Days help support Wylie Christian Church youth activities and outreach efforts, along with organizations and ministries including the Noah Project, Salvation Army, and the church food pantry.

And one final piece of advice from somebody who learned this firsthand last September: if your wife or kids suddenly fall in love with something at one of those vendor tables, remember where they found it.

Christmas will be here before you know it.
