Abilene Food Bank Receives Massive America250 Food Delivery Today
Something pretty special is rolling into Abilene today, and it’s all about helping families right here in the Big Country.
The Food Bank of West Central Texas will celebrate a major food donation today, Wednesday, May 6, as part of the nationwide America250 “America Gives” initiative. Abilene is one of 250 cities across the country receiving a truckload of donated food in an effort to fight hunger while helping commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
And honestly, this is the kind of thing that reminds you how strong community can still be.

Millions of Meals Headed to Families Across America
According to organizers, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and JustServe.org teamed up with America250 to launch the initiative, which includes 250 food deliveries to food banks in all 50 states.
Those deliveries are expected to help provide roughly 10 million meals to families in need nationwide.
The trucks themselves are wrapped in special America250 branding celebrating the partnership and the national service effort.
Abilene Community Invited to Volunteer
Instead of volunteers unloading the truck, organizers are turning the event into a hands-on volunteer food-packing celebration for the community.
The event happens today at 11 a.m. at the Food Bank of West Central Texas located at 5505 N. 1st Street in Abilene.
Food Insecurity In Texas
Let’s be real for a second: food insecurity is something that affects way more West Texans than people realize. Organizations like the Food Bank of West Central Texas quietly do incredible work every single day, helping families, seniors, veterans, and kids across the Big Country.
This week, Abilene gets to be part of something much bigger nationwide, and that's pretty cool.
