Belt buckles...they are cherished prizes and keepsakes for many East Texas youngsters who have excelled at showing livestock at various fairs and events. Many of these fairs also offer competitions in categories such as baking, photography, public speaking, and more. Winners in these contests usually get ribbons, but not buckles. Lori Frederickson, a County Extension Agent in Nacogdoches, is helping to spearhead a novel idea to change all that.

A New Concept Is Coming To Nacogdoches

The first-ever Nacogdoches County 4-H Buckle Bash is coming. It's a fun and exciting event where Nacogdoches 4-H members can show off their talents, learn new skills, and compete for awards, including belt buckles. Participants can choose from four different competitions: Public Speaking, Baking, Fashion & Design, and Photography.

Who Can Sign Up?

Youth ages 5-8, as well as students in 3rd through 12th grade, are welcome to participate. Contestants must be an enrolled Nacogdoches County 4-H member to compete, but there is still time to join 4-H and get involved. Entrants do not need to have previous experience in these contests to give it a try.

Important Upcoming Dates

The deadline for registration is Monday, November 2. Then, Thursday, November 12, is the contest day and deadline for entry submission, and November 13 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. is the submission and awards. Anyone who needs to register, has questions about the Buckle Bash, or wants to become a 4-H member can contact Lori at (936)560-7711 or email lori.frederick@ag.tamu.edu.
