Drivers Beware: Night Paving Resumes in Nacogdoches
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is alerting motorists in Nacogdoches and Apple Springs of two projects that will lead to detours and/or road closures beginning this week.
Nacogdoches North Street Project
Nighttime paving operations on Business 59/North Street in Nacogdoches will resume on Wednesday, March 18. This is a continuation of the mill-and-inlay project that began in 2025 when Business 59 between State Highway 21 (SH 21) and State Loop 224 (SL 224) was repaved. Work during this phase will occur between SH 21/Main Street and SL 224/N/Stallings Drive during night hours to minimize traffic disruptions.
Drivers should expect delays during night hours when workers are present. Pedestrians should use extra caution when approaching the active work zone and seek alternate routes where possible.
Apple Springs Road Construction
TxDOT will sealcoat, restripe and improve the intersection at Farm-to-Market Road 2501 (FM 2501) and FM 357 in the Apple Springs community beginning Friday, March 20. Crews will seal-coat the area on March 20, and restriping will take place from March 23 through March 27. The restriping at the intersection will affect traffic patterns and improve safety. This work was planned to coincide with the Apple Springs Independent School District spring break to minimize disruptions.
Traffic will be shifted in the following ways:
• Southbound traffic from FM 357 to State Highway 94 (SH 94) will yield to FM 2501 traffic.
• Southbound FM 2501 traffic will no longer stop for FM 357 traffic.
• A stop sign will be installed for southbound FM 357 drivers turning onto FM 2501.
• Drivers turning onto FM 357 North from FM 2501 will make a left turn instead of continuing through the curve.
Drivers approaching the intersection while work is being performed should slow down and be alert for workers in the area.
