What Drivers, Cyclists, and Pedestrians Should Know

TxDOT officials say that safety on Texas roads is a shared responsibility. Drivers are always expected to stay alert and yield to pedestrians and cyclists, but riders and walkers are reminded to follow all traffic signs and signals.

As you would expect, nighttime is especially dangerous. In 2024, approximately 77% of pedestrian deaths and 64% of cyclist fatalities happened after dark.

More and more people are exploring ways to save money which means some might be cutting back on the amount they are driving and switching to alternatives such as walking or riding a bike to get to their destination. Also as summer months approach with more kids playing and walking around it’s more important than ever to pay attention when you are on Texas roads.

Please do your part to stay alert so Texas roads are safer for everyone.
