Lubbock catches a ton of heat, and not just the kind that makes us sweaty in the summer. Please LOVE to complain about this city. The wind. The dust. The lack of trees. Whatever it is. People complain.

But, for a place that gets dragged so often, there are some things that Lubbock actually does really well, and nobody mentions them nearly often enough.

First off, our local art and music scene is wildly underrated. For a city this size, the amount of talent here is ridiculous. Walk into any random bar on the weekend, and you'll get an incredible performance from someone you've never heard of. The same goes for our artists. Painters, photographers, creators...there's just SO much creativity here. It never gets the spotlight it deserves.

Another thing is our community. When something happens, good or bad, Lubbock shows up. Whether it's going out to support a struggling local business or even just stopping to help someone with a flat tire, people here really care about one another.

And let’s talk about convenience. You can get pretty much anywhere in 15 minutes. No insane traffic, no spending half your life on the highway. It’s an underrated luxury until you leave and realize how good you had it.

Something can also be said for the pace of life here. We don't rush. It's not chaotic. You can kind of step back, take it all in, and just breathe. You can really build something from nothing here.

Lubbock isn't perfect by any means, but beneath all of the jokes and complaints, there's a lot this city is getting right.
