A recent study by LifeExtension.com, a health science company, found that Texans rank very poorly among the rest of the United States in brain health. The research was based on the number of people in the Lone Star State who exercise, eat vegetables every day, sleep enough, meditate, read often, were breastfed as infants, and were read to by their parents every day as a child.

Texans scored at number 43 out of 50 states. It could be worse, but it's pretty bad... Vermont scored as the number one state for healthy brains and Louisiana came in dead last.

You can help keep your brain healthy by making a few adjustments to your daily life. Getting quality sleep, eating well, working on your fitness, and reading are all incredibly important. Breastfed children are also said to score higher on the brain health chart. It's also incredibly important to keep your mind active by spending some time reading each day. It benefits children to be read to as well, so don't forget the night-night stories each evening when you tuck them in. You could kill two birds with one stone by reading out loud to your child every day. It will sharpen both of your brains.

The study also highlights the importance of taking time to de-stress from different things that bring chaos to your life. Taking a walk, getting a massage, and spending time with your friends also impact the overall wellness of your brain.

Treat yourself, don't cheat yourself! Take care of your brain. It's the only one you have.
