A woman and her passenger are lucky to be alive after driving into a tornado in Valley View, Texas. The incident happened in May of last year, but it feels like the perfect opportunity to remind folks how easy it is to find yourself in trouble while driving during a tornado warning.

Now, I need to point out that she may not have known there was a tornado on the ground before the incident in the video below. But she damn sure figured out what was going on as she approached the twister.

The video opens with what could have been mistaken for extreme straight-line winds. However, a few seconds into the clip, you hear her say that her ears were popping, which is caused by the sudden drop in air pressure when near a tornado, according to the National Weather Service. At that point, there wasn’t much she could do other than hope and pray for the best.

Fortunately, the tornado passed over them without sucking anyone out of the vehicle or causing it to flip (even though it did get pretty scary there for a second – seriously, I thought there was a chance it might not end well). Remember, the best advice is to simply not drive when severe weather is in the area.
