A man in Odessa has recently been indicted for murdering a woman and dumping her body under a bridge. When officers pulled him over after the incident took place, they discovered dried blood and a bullet hole in the front passenger seat.

An Unassuming Traffic Stop in Ector County

On March 6, 2026, Ector County deputies conducted a traffic stop on a gray Chevy Tahoe near 3000 West 2nd Street. The vehicle was stopped for failing to use a signal and because the license plates indicated the car was registered to someone with an active warrant for their arrest.

The warrant was out of Reagan County for theft of petroleum products.

Officers also discovered that the driver of the Tahoe, Usbaldo Hernandez Carrasco, was operating the vehicle with an invalid license.

Signs of a Murderer

During the traffic stop, officers were drawn to dried blood and what they identified as a bullet hole in the passenger seat. Carrasco was immediately detained and sent to the Ector County Sheriff's Office for questioning.

Carrasco quickly admitted guilt, choosing to waive his Miranda Rights and tell the police what happened.

He Shot Her In the Head and Hid the Body

The day before, on Thursday, Carrasco said that he fired a Glock at a woman in the passenger seat straight to the side of her head. The victim, identified as Maria Ramirez, was wearing black shorts and white shoes at the time of the shooting.

Carrasco then drove the woman's body to County Road 280 before dumping her under a small bridge.

Carrasco also led the officers to where he hid the firearm near Falomir Avenue. Later, Mitchell County officers visited the bridge described by Carrasco and discovered the body of a woman matching the description of Maria Ramirez in black shorts and white shoes.

Usbaldo Carrasco was indicted for the murder of Maria Ramirez and for tampering with evidence.
