Austin, Texas has its share of great bar-b-que options for both the locals and tourists to enjoy, but there is one particular restaurant that has mastered being the top spot in Texas periodically. Now, that Southern Living has named their favorite BBQ restaurant for the fourth year in a row in the Lone Star State as the same place, you might begin to wonder if they have created a new tradition just as revered as Texas's love for slow cooked meat.

My cousin Matt and his wife Liz plan on visiting us this weekend while they are enjoying a short stay in Austin, and their only request is finding the best bar-b-que they can, and eating as much of it as possible. Like any good Texan, I reminded him that the best bar-b-que in the state comes off my own smoker, but we do plan to explore some Central Texas icons.

Believe it or not, I have never eaten at Franklin Barbeque on East 11th Street in Austin, and it has nothing to do with the lines that are known to circle the block before they open at 11 AM. According to this KVUE article, Franklin has now been named, via Southern Living, the top Texas bar-b-que restaurant for the fourth year in a row.

Eventually, we will make the time to visit Franklin, but in the meantime we will keep loading the smoker at home, and welcoming guests at all times.
