El Paso Neighbor Named “Quirkiest Town In America”
World Atlas put together a list of the quirkiest towns in the United States of America and a town less than 90 miles from El Paso is on it.
World Atlas is known for compiling all sorts or cool, weird, interesting and quirky data to help folks make the most of their travel time and destinations. When it comes to "quirky", New Mexico and Texas spots shouldn't be lumped into a national list. We totally deserve our own lists.
Alamogordo made this World Atlas "quirkiest Cities" list. Located about 70 miles from the northeast edge of El Paso. Alamogordo has definitely got some unique stuff going on.
What's So Special About Alamogordo?
On the quirky side, they have the world's largest pistachio. It's in front of Pistachio Land where you can pick up, (or find out how to make), just about anything with or from pistachios.
Compared to other parts of New Mexico, (looking at you Roswell), Alamogordo is actually pretty normal. Check out the Museum Of Space History or maybe do some dune "boarding" at White Sands National Park while you're there.
3 Of Dubba G's Favorite Quirky New Mexico Places
New Mexico can claim plenty of other "quirky" places and things. For example:
- A big ass roadrunner - Made completely from trash, it's in Las Cruces.
- One of the holiest places on Earth - It's actually the dirt that's holy in Chimayo.
- A restaurant that makes its own eggs - They don't buy them from a store in Albuquerque.
- A UFO Festival along with Viking and Pirate Parties - Roswell and Edgewood.
- 5 star hotel ... inside a cave - Farmington.
Weird Things In Texas
I love New Mexico, (we El Pasoans practically live there), but I'm a Texan first. If you want want weird places, Texas has got you covered boy. Trust me.

- Cadillac Ranch - You're actually encouraged to deface the artwork in Amarillo.
- Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower and Munster Mansion - Odessa, Paris and Waxahachie.
- All Glass Restroom - Yep ... all glass, all the way around, in Sulphur Springs.
- Odd Restaurants - Car washes, abandoned railroad cars and strip clubs in Houston and El Paso.
I could go on but, its lunchtime.
