El Paso Corvette Club Gets Some Love From “Ponch & Jon”

A pair of actors, best known for playing motorcycle cops on tv from '77 - '83, just gave a shout out to a local corvette owners group in honor of their charity work.

Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox played Frank "Ponch" Poncherello and Jon Baker on the TV show, CHiP's and in the "reunion" movie, CHIP's '99. They, along with only 4 or 5 other "Chippies", somehow avoided epic car accidents and kept L.A. freeways safe without any other help.

Their official, LAPD call signs, 7 Mary 3 and 7 Mary 4 became so well known that one, (Baker's), call sign became the name of a big 90's rock band.

Pretty cool, huh? Baker also made another mark in the music world with an appearance in a Rehab video that we'll get to in a minute. For now, here's what he and Erik had to say to the El Paso Corvette Club:

Baker's Music Video Appearance

Larry Wilcox brought his "Baker" character back for a quick cameo in the music video for "Bartender Song" by Rehab. In the video his CHIPs character, (sporting a name tag that says "Larry Wilcox" instead of "Jon Baker"), arrests Rehab's singer, Danny Boone, for a number of crimes. The "bust" happens at about 2:30.

Props to the El Paso Corvette Club for those kick ass cars and for all the good you do while celebrating the mighty 'Vette. Keep it up but keep the speed down - you heard what Larry said ...
