Wild weather games don't happen all the time in the NFL but when it does, it's always a memorable game (sometimes for all the wrong reasons). For Houston, they've played a share of crazy weather games in their history. Both the Texans AND the Oilers. We'll start with the Oilers first.

Here are some of the wildest weather games the Houston Oilers have played

One of the wildest weather games that Houston Oilers played was the 1978-79 AFC Championship on January 7, 1979. The Oilers played on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers in FREEZING cold weather at Three Rivers Stadium; the rain & icy turf hindered the Oilers and helped the Steelers to a 34-5 win.

Another notable snow game that involved the Houston Oilers was the December 18, 1988 game against the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland. That game became known as the Snow Comeback" due to the fact the Browns were down by 16 points, before coming back in the 3rd quarter to win the game 28-23.

The Oilers and Browns would have another crazy game on December 15, 1991. 28 degree weather & a big ol' snowstorm didn't stop Houston from getting the victory, 17-14. The game that became known as the "Win in the Snowstorm".

Some of the wildest weather games the Houston Texans have played

The Texans have been around since 1999, and since their home games are in stadiums, usually they don't have to deal with crazy weather in Houston. But they have played their share of games in harsh weather while on the road; like on November 15, 2020. The Texans played against the Browns in Cleveland & thanks to the 40 mph winds and a weather delay, the game only ended with a 10-7 score. Cleveland would win that game.

Of course we would be remised if we didn't mention the Texans/Patriots match up during the 2026 AFC Divisional Playoffs. Snow was VERY problematic for both the Texans and the Patriots. The Texans played on the road at Gillette Stadium; they fought hard but couldn’t beat the Patriots in the snow; Texans would lose 28-16.
