As a mom to a high school student, getting a notification from your son's school that they have been placed in lockdown is never something you want to hear or read, but that is what happened early Friday for parents of Americas High School students.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, early Friday morning three students were hospitalized with stab wounds, Authorities said the students are currently in stable condition, and one suspect is in custody.  The incident prompted a major law enforcement response at America’s High School campus, including an emergency medical helicopter.

The school was initially placed on lockdown before moving to a hold as investigators worked at the scene. The sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit is investigating alongside the Texas Rangers and Socorro ISD Police Department.

According to local media outlets, Socorro ISD lifted all safety protocols at Americas High School and the school began dismissing students at 11:10 a.m. Friday following the violent incident involving students.

Socorro ISD said the students involved were identified and their parents were contacted directly. The district also said the remaining students and staff were safe and under the supervision of faculty and staff.

What parents need to know:

  • Students are being dismissed beginning at 11:10 a.m.
  • Parents picking up students must bring a valid ID.
  • Pickup is at the entrance by the main gym.
  • Students who normally ride the bus or drive themselves should also be picked up by a parent.
  • SISD says it is arranging a later time for students to retrieve their vehicles.
  • All after-school activities are canceled.

What drivers need to know:

Pellicano Drive near the school was closed to traffic, creating potential delays in the area. Drivers should avoid the campus and follow directions from law enforcement.

What neighbors need to know:

The investigation remains active, with multiple law enforcement agencies involved. Residents should avoid the area and rely on official updates rather than unverified information circulating online.

This is a developing story, and additional details are expected as investigators hold a news conference.
