Lana Del Rey Winks at ’69 With ‘Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind’

Witchy flower child Lana Del Rey released single "Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind" today (May 15). The dreamy, bass-heavy tune talks rose crowns and "all of the love" while comparing the 1969 festival experience to Coachella.

The single is likely to be part of Del Rey’s upcoming Lust for Life album, slated for release toward the end of 2017. Also on the album will be songs "Lust for Life" featuring the Weeknd and "Love," performed for the first time in March at SXSW. Stevie Nicks is additionally said to be working on a song with Del Rey.

Lyrics in "Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind" -- "Maybe my contribution / Could be as small as hoping / That words could turn to birds and birds would send my thoughts / your way" -- recall imagery found in Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock" from 1970: "And I dreamed I saw the bomber death planes / Riding shotgun in the sky / Turning into butterflies / Above our nation." Mitchell's version is found on her Ladies of the Canyon album, named for a '60s Los Angeles musical hot spot. With Del Rey living in the "Hollyweird" sign, it seems like both singers share a penchant for festivals and L.A., too.
