Singer-songwriter Andrew Gold, best known for the songs 'Lonely Boy' and 'Thank You For Being A Friend' died this past Friday (June 3rd) at 59. The cause of death was a heart attack.

Gold had a big hit with 'Lonely Boy' in 1977, hitting number 7 on the charts. But he perhaps even better know for 'Thank You For Being A Friend' because that song became the theme to 'The Golden Girls' television series.

Besides those visible successes, Andrew Gold was Linda Ronstadt's band leader for years. His vocal harmonies and piano work are all over her albums 'Heart Like A Wheel', 'Prisoner In Disguise', and 'Hasten Down The Wind'. And if you pick up any of his albums, you'll find they are excellent musically.   He worked Don Henley, James Taylor, and so many other artists.   Here's a video of Andrew Gold performing 'Lonely Boy' live:
