June 2017 New Music Releases
The list of June 2017 new music releases includes a few notable returns to glory, some terrific live sets and a group of very tasty reissues.
Styx are back with a concept album called The Mission. It's their 16th studio effort, and the first featuring all-new material since 2003's Cyclorama. Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie are issuing their first album together since Fleetwood Mac's Tango in the Night; everyone but Stevie Nicks is on board from that lineup.
Roger Waters releases the 12-track Is This the Life We Really Want?, his first studio record in 25 years. Gov't Mule also seek to frame these interesting times with Revolution Come ... Revolution Go, their first album of original material in four years. Cheap Trick, on the other hand, have rushed right back with We're All Alright! The gap between last year's Bang, Zoom, Crazy … Hello and its predecessor was seven long years.
This month's live projects include King Crimson's Heroes: Live in Europe 2016, which features a cover of "Heroes" by leader Robert Fripp's late friend and collaborator David Bowie. Elsewhere, the Who are offering fans a chance to relive their 2004 appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival, site of a signature 1970 performance.
The slate of reissues is topped by U2's remixed and expanded 30th anniversary commemoration of of The Joshua Tree. ZZ Top will also release a new vinyl set focusing on their early albums.
