NASA Messenger Spacecraft Sends Back Images Of Planet Mercury

The Nasa Messenger spacecraft has successfully achieved orbit around the planet Mercury.

On March 29th, Messenger sent back a series of stunning photos of the closest planet to our sun. The photos show a desolate, gray surface covered in impact craters.

It took Messenger over 6 years to reach its destination, and it is expected to orbit Mercury for about a year. The craft will analyze features of the planet that have been unknown until now. I love space exploration in general, and especially am awed by the technology that allows such detailed images of other worlds.
