No Longer ‘New Girl’ Will End With Season 7
New Girl, now a veteran of FOX's rotation, will end after an abridged eight-episode seventh season, the network announced on Twitter yesterday (May 14).
The show, which premiered in 2011 and stars Zooey Deschanel, centers on a group of loft-mates who struggle to navigate friendships and relationships in such close quarters. The show's sixth season ended on a cliffhanger in April, and fans were relieved to find there's still more story to tell where Jess, Nick and Cece are concerned.
"It's time to put on your cowboy hats and get down, #NewGirl fans. The loft-mates are coming BACK for Season 7!" the show's official account wrote, while show star Jake Johnson added "Very excited to be able to finish what we started. Also Happy Mother's Day, ladies."
Fans shared a mix of relief that the show still had a little life left in it and disappointment that its final season didn't get a full episode order.
"8 episodes is just not enough! I'm pretty bummed out to say the least but at least we get some closure & hopefully good closure," one wrote, while another noted "you guys so deserve another season. Definitely the most talented cast and writers out there."
New Girl has been nominated for five Golden Globes and five Emmys across its six-year run, including a pair of Lead Actress noms for Deschanel.
