New ‘Lone Ranger’ Movie Casts Armie Hammer In Title Role

Armie Hammer will play the Lone Ranger in the new movie being produced by Disney, with Johnny Depp as his faithful sidekick Tonto.

This one promises to be a real twist on the original TV series. Depp was announced weeks ago as the actor who would portray Tonto, and has made no secret of the fact that he wants to bring a new take on the character. Depp wants a portrayal that will respect Native Americans, and will lend a LOT more depth to the character.

Hammer is best known for his role as twins in 'The Social Network'. I think he has the right look for the Lone Ranger, especially if you visualize him behind that mask.

Jerry Bruckheimer is handling producing duties, and with Disney at the helm, the movie adaptation promises to be a family blockbuster when it finally hits theaters next year. There's no firm release date set, but word has it that Disney would like to see the movie hit theaters in the Fall of 2012.
