‘Shrek’ and ‘Coco’ Featured for Movies in the Park

Abilene's Parks and Recreation's "Movies in the Park" is back for another year of watching blockbuster movies under the stars in Abilene.

While Abilene may have an abundance of family-friendly events, each year, my personal favorite has always been Movies in the Park. There's nothing like watching an awesome movie in one of Abilene's beautiful parks...and all under the stars.

Best of all, these movies are free to the public.

So far, there are two Movies in the Park slated for 2021. Shrek will be shown at Rose Park on Friday June 11th and Coco will be shown at Sears Park on Friday, July 16th.

Grab all of your family and friends and take in an evening watching one of those (if not both) awesome family-friendly films. Oh yeah, make sure you bring lawn chairs and/or picnic blankets. I mean, if you're gonna do it, do it right and be comfortable.

Once again, Movies in the Park is free for the entire community. Also, the movies will start at around sunset, which is typically around 9pm. You might want to bring some skeeter spray, too. With all the rain we've had, I'm sure those pesky little things will see us all as a blood buffet.

At this current time, I'm not 100% sure if you can bring a cooler full of drinks and munchies, but just use the "ask for forgiveness later" approach.

If two movies in the park isn't enough, then you might also want to check out some of the other summer movies that Abilene's Parks and Recreation Department is hosting.

There will be three movies shown at Adventure Cove with each costing $4, per person, with gates opening at 8pm each night.

The first will be The Greatest Showman on Friday, June 25th. Then, you get to experience a little Christmas in July as they'll be showing Elf on Friday, July 23rd. Finally, The Peanuts Movie will be shown on Friday, August 13th.
