Don Everly has issued his first comments following Friday night's death of his brother and musical partner Phil Everly -- and says he knew Phil was gone before anybody told him.

Phil Everly, one-half of the enormously successful and influential early rock band the Everly Brothers, died last night in Los Angeles from complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 74.

Don Everly, half of the Everly Brothers musical duo is celebrating his 75th birthday today (February 1st 2012).  Don is the older of the two brothers, known for their incredible vocal harmonies, which influenced countless bands including the Beatles and the Beach Boys.
