The annual Texas High School Rodeo Association (THRA) finals are returning to Abilene in 2022. This is where the top high school rodeo athletes compete for scholarships and the right to move on to nationals.

This year the Texas High School Rodeo finals are returning to the Taylor County Expo Center beginning June 2nd through June 11th, 2022. Holy DeLaune, Marketing, and Public Relations Director for the THRA says “we are very happy to be returning to Abilene and we are especially happy to welcome spectators to come to watch these Texas high school athletes compete."

After the last couple of years when spectatorship was questionable at best. DeLaune added "the sound of spectators and fans makes the competition more exciting and fun. We welcome all West Texans to come to support these young athletes.”

Everyone is invited to attend (noticed in the photos below that the arena seats were empty during the pandemic).

LOOK: Texas High School Rodeo Finals Highlights

This year there are well over 1,000 Cowboys and Cowgirls that have been competing to get to this year’s Texas High School Rodeo Association finals to try and win the title of State Champion. Plus the chance to go onto the National High School Rodeo Association Finals and compete for some really big scholarship money.

The THSRA finals will be held at the Taylor County Expo center in the all-new Taylor Telecom arena at 1700 Highway 36 Abilene. Events will be held nightly with doors opening at 6:00 PM and the competition begins at 7:00 PM.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students through Friday. Saturday tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Events include (my favorite) pole bending, barrel racing, bull riding, bronc riding, team roping, and more.

There will be food and drink concessions available plus vendors of western wear, riding and roping supplies, equine care, jewelry, and more.

For more information contact the Taylor County Expo Center at 325-677-4376, at taylorcountyexpocenter.com. or the THSRA finals website.
