The Texas Rangers will honor Brownwood firefighter Shannon Stone with a statue at The Ballpark In Arlington.  Stone fell to his death July 7th  at a Rangers game trying to catch a ball thrown into the stands.

The statue was Nolan Ryan's idea.  Ryan said in an interview that he thought the statue would be a fitting tribute to Rangers fans and the memory of Shannon Stone.  He indicated that Stone's wife Jenny and son Cooper would be involved in the design of the statue, which is tentatively titled 'Rangers Fans'.  The statue will depict Stone and his son, who was with him at the ballpark on that fateful day.

The project is scheduled for completion by the start of the 2012 season, and will stand outside the home plate gate.  It will be the third statue erected at the park, along with statues of Nolan Ryan and Tom Vandergriff.  See more on the story at my source, ESPN.go.com.
