Are you ready to have some fun, in the great outdoors and help out a local non-profit all at the same time? Well, you're in luck because the 20th Annual West Texas Dove Classic to benefit DRI (Disability Resources Incorporated) will be September 25th and 26th.

This annual FUNdraising dove hunt will be held at Dr. Norman Dozier's White Rock Lodge just outside of Abilene. The hunting will actually be done on several nearby West Texas ranches as all participants will enjoy two days of dove hunting and a "Dove Hunt Heptathlon" on Saturday of which you don't want to miss out on.

The special "Dove Hunt Heptathlon" consists of seven events (thus the 'Hept'). The seven events are:

  • Scoped .22 rifle target shoot from 100 yards
  • Open sights .22 rifle target shoot from 35 yards
  • Pistol .22 target shoot from 15 yards
  • Hatchet throw
  • Washer pitchin’ / Horseshoe throwin’
  • Clay target shoot (you'll need your own shotgun)
  • Cornhole competition

You'll need a partner for this competition on Saturday morning. There will also be great food, special gifts, contests, awards, a live and silent auction.

Holly Holmes, Director of Special Events for DRI says “This is a really fun hunt and a major fundraiser for us, we are blessed with DRI supporters and hunters who show their support every year.”

New hunters are always welcomed as clay and dove hunting instructors will be on hand to help novice hunters. This DRI the event will run from 8 AM till 8 PM Friday & Saturday. The cost to register is only $750 for early bird and $850 regular. Extra dinner tickets are only $35 per day. Early registration in highly recommended.

The White Rock Lodge is located at 13249 FM1812, Merkel. Contact Holly Holms at 325-677-6815 as sponsor opportunities are still available.
