I have to credit my friend Mike Nobles for posting this one on Facebook yesterday.  Mike works for Warner Brothers and is a virtual music encyclopedia.

You might remember Texan Doug Sahm from his early days with the Sir Douglas Quintet.  They charted a hit titled 'She's About A Mover' in 1965, followed by another song that cracked the top 30; 'Mendocino' in 1968.  But that's only the tip of the iceberg. Sahm would go on to be considered one of the pioneering influences in rock music for his mix of Tejano and Cajun elements into the genre.

He was a musical genius playing about nine different instruments and continuing to perform until his untimely death at the age of 58 in 1999 due to a heart attack.   He had formed another 'supergroup' nine years previous in 1990 called 'The Texas Tornadoes' which featured Freddy Fender, Augie Myers, and Flaco Jimenez. Sahm was, in every sense of the word, a trailblazer.

I had forgotten just how powerful he was on guitar until my buddy Mike posted the video below yesterday.  For the Texas music fans, check out 'Stormy Monday' recorded live in Austin, Texas in 1975:
