5 Things I Like To Do During An Ice Storm In Abilene
Unless you've been hibernating lately you'll notice that the Abilene area has been hit with a pretty severe ice storm. Even as I was watching Fox News, they were breaking away to shots of the roads in Abilene. The city is all but shut down, at least for the moment. Abilene Police and Texas authorities are urging everyone to stay off the roads and stay home. It's not a bad idea in my opinion. It's better to be safe than sorry. Nobody wants their vehicle wrapped around a utility pole, or better yet, to harm anyone on the road.
So, what is there do to with this spare time you might have from no work or school? If you're anything like me, you take advantage. After all, it's not every day that the weather swings in favor of staying home. I'm about to share with you some of my absolute favorite things to pass the time on an iced-up day at home. See if you're guilty of doing any of these yourself.

Cook Cold Weather Food
Who doesn't love something piping hot to warm up your insides on a cold day? Favorites always include soups, chilis (with no beans), chicken and dumplings, and stews. I always cook one of my favorites, Fiesta Bake.
Listen to the Vinyl Collection
Music goes wherever I go anyway, but I really enjoy the warmth and "crackle" of old vinyl records playing on the turntable. For me, it's time well spent.
Catch Up on Cleaning
I get it. Nobody really looks forward to catching up on cleaning around the house. But, you'd be surprised how quickly things can get junked up. At the end of the day, you'll be ahead of the game.
Binge Watch Some Favorite Shows
You don't feel like moving off of the couch? I respect that. Do what I do and get caught up on some of your favorite shows. Binge away.
Catch Up on Some Needed Sleep
If there's extra time to take advantage of, a great way to spend it is to catch up on some sleep. Naps feel great during the day, just ask my puppy Cujo.
I may not be able to fit all of these in but I sure am going to try. The Abilene forecast is already showing temperatures above freezing within the next couple of days. There's not much time to waste. The ice melts and back to the daily grind we go.
Should you need to get out while the temperature is frigid, remember to go prepared. Making sure these items are in your vehicle could save you time and heartache. Just look below to see which ones.
