Is Tipping At The Drive Thru Window In Abilene A Thing Nowadays?
Hunger can strike at any time. If you're like me, you don't always have time to sit down for a meal when you want to. Fast food restaurants of all kinds stand at the ready. When I was younger and in college I practically lived off fast food. Even today, as I make much better food decisions, I still enjoy a tasty burrito or burger from one of Abilene's many drive-thru windows.
One thing I have noticed is the tip receptacles right there in the drive-thru window. Is this something new? Has tipping etiquette changed again? I bet I've visited literally hundreds of fast-food joints during my lifetime, and not once do I recall seeing a tip jar at a drive-thru window. I've always considered myself to be an outstanding tipper so if something has changed, I wanted to know.

The etiquette school Maralee McKee digs into the proper call to make when visiting establishments with tip jars at their to-go windows. In their article, the question is answered:
Those associates are working diligently to serve you, but in restaurant terms, they are filling orders, or completing tasks. They’re not providing a special service, since to-go windows are a standard part of each restaurant.
In most cases, these workers earn at least minimum wage, and often it's more. It's important to remember that income is not tip-based in the fast-food industry. The experts also add that it's not necessary to tip for your morning cup of joe unless you're ordering something off the standard menu.
I get it. We're all out there looking for that dollar. Gratuity is a big deal. It can make an impact on income. Be sure to follow proper tipping etiquette and be generous when you can. That's what I try and do.
Abilene already has great choices when it comes to fast food, but we could use even more in my book. Check out below for some favorites we desperately need.
