It's taken him 37 years but Tom Petty finally scores a #1 with his new album 'Hypnotic Eye'. The album sold 131,000 copies in the first week, this places it second only to his 1994 solo album Wildflowers, which sold 161,000 units. The numbers are recorded by the Billboard 200 and based on Nielsen SoundScan. Petty first appeared on the Billboard charts back in the late '70s.

Petty is currently on tour and added the album purchase in with concert ticket sales, which could have helped boost it to the #1 position. By the way you will be able to catch that tour in Dallas and Houston coming up in September.

You would think that a veteran musician the caliber of Tom Petty would have many #1's so I'm sure this is pretty sweet after waiting 37 years.
