I gotta admit I was a little surprised at the list of best concept albums of all time, as featured in a poll on the Gibson Guitars website.  I do agree with the number one choice.  'Tommy' is by far the most developed concept and story front to back, in my opinion.  But Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side' all the way down at number 10?

1. The Who-- Tommy (1969)
2. Jethro Tull-- Thick As A Brick (1972)
3. Drive By Truckers-- Southern Rock Opera (2001)
4. The Beatles-- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
5. Green Day-- American Idiot (2004)
6. Alice Cooper-- Welcome To My Nightmare (1975)
7. Dream Theater-- Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From Memory (1999)
8. David Bowie-- Ziggy Stardust (1972)
9. Rush-- 2112 (1976)
10. Pink Floyd-- Dark Side Of The moon (1973)

If you've never heard the album by Drive By Truckers, give it a listen. I think it definitely belongs in the top ten. Those guys are brilliant. I just think that Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side' should be higher. And arguably their album 'The Wall' is more of a concept album. It definitely tells a story based on a defined and twisted 'concept' from the mind of Roger Waters.

Such is the nature of polls. They start a lot of arguments, and kick off a lot of discussion. That's a good thing. What would your list look like?
