The new movie 'Bridesmaids' opened in second place last weekend at the box office (May 20-22), a distant second to 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'. But the movie had an unexpected effect on music sales for Wilson-Phillips.

Their hit song from 1990 'Hold On' is featured prominently in the movie, and over the past week, the song was downloaded over 6,000 times, compared to 1,000 the week before. The girls in the band, Chynna Phillips, Carnie Wilson, and Wendy Wilson are thrilled with the exposure and the movie.

Carnie Wilson actually appears in the movie and watched it over the weekend. She wants to see it again with more members of her family.

Wilson-Phillips have had a very low profile over the past decade, playing small venues with no new music begin recorded or released. But that's all about to change. The group is working on a new album expected to be out later this year, and they are adding some tour dates to the 2011 schedule.

Nothing like great publicity to get things in motion. (via Reuters.com)
