You'll find Walmarts practically everywhere. I know a bunch of my paycheck gets dropped at these stores and I'm willing to bet I'm far from the only one. You can always seem to find almost everything you need under one roof. It's an empire for sure and you know there are suits in an office doing everything they can to keep the brand at the forefront of retail dominance.

Even in the last few years we've all seen changes at Walmart. One of the biggest is the automated checkouts that have practically taken over. According to an article from the U.S. Sun, there are even more big decisions coming down the pipeline. Some pretty big ones too. Changes you need to know about.

New Remodels

You can expect remodels of stores across the board as the brand tries to improve the overall customer experience. That includes a sleek more modern look. Abilene's Walmart on Highway 351 has already started such remodels.

Deliveries by Drone

This was first announced by Walmart in 2021. It's caught on like wildfire. Now available at over 30 stores spanning several states. I hear customers can get their goods within 30 minutes by choosing this option.

Shopping by Text

It's all about ease and convenience. Walmart launched its text-to-shop feature back in December. You can open the app and literally type in a list of what you need. Pretty handy.

Store Closures

Even as big of an empire as Walmart is, not all stores perform well. Pick-up and delivery outlets that were in Arkansas and Illinois have already closed. Other states affected include, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Florida, and Washington, DC. No stores in Abilene or Texas are on the blacklist so far.

Health Centers

That's right. Walmart Health Centers are expanding to even more stores and states. These clinics help with everything from medical to dental, even behavioral treatments. They'll provide care to those who have insurance or not. 10 locations in the Dallas area and 8 in Houston are scheduled to open in early 2024.

Security Precautions

Shoplifting is on the rise. Walmart has been trying desperately to cut back on the amount of loss. You can expect to see even more measures being taken especially at the self-check-out. Personally, I've noticed more and more items being under lock and key. Customers don't take too kindly to that, especially when it takes additional time to track down an employee for the assist.

Some folks I know try to avoid Walmart like the plague, while others are in there at least once a week. No matter which way you lean, expect to see some changes at your store in the coming months.

Times are changing, that's for sure. Some retail stores have not been able to keep up and have gone by the wayside. For a look at some that we knew and loved, check out below.
