Watch the Epic Drum Battle Between Chad Smith and Will Ferrell
It finally went down! Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and his doppelganger, ‘Anchorman’ Will Ferrell, squared off on ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’ last night in a long-promised drum battle.
Smith and Ferrell finally settled their mock feud with an epic drum contest, with the champion walking away with a golden cowbell. They also raised money for charities of their choice. (Ferrell's was Cancer for College, which gives scholarships to cancer patients; Smith's was Charity Little Kids Rock, which provides music education to public schools.)
Watching the above video, it's hard to distinguish who is who, since both sported matching Kiss tees, backward baseball caps and leather jackets.
This all started back in February, with Ferrell claiming that there was no Chad Smith, and Smith responded by challenging Ferrell to a drum battle.
During their respective drum solos, Ferrell had some help from 'Tonight Show' and Roots drummer, Questlove (who was actually the movie star's ghost drummer; Ferrell drum-synced his performance).
After their “grueling” drum off, Ferrell was crowned the winner and was presented the golden cowbell. Then the Red Hot Chili Peppers joined him onstage to perform Blue Oyster Cult's ‘(Don’t Fear) The Reaper’ as Ferrell banged away on his new prize -- a reference to a classic 'Saturday Night Live' skit starring Ferrell.
The Peppers also performed ‘Standing on the Verge of Getting It On’ and ‘Give It Away’ with the Roots. Here's video:
