It's a pretty big deal for most of us. A life-changing decision. I'm talking about buying a home. While post-pandemic real estate continues to be a nightmare in places like New York and California, it seems many fellow Americans are flocking to states with more affordable housing, including Texas.

The online platform LendingTree states in a recent study that it's currently easier for Americans to move to the U.S. South and Midwest, and one of the reasons is housing. The food and travel media site Thrillist claims the down payment on a home has increased nationally to an average of $62,000, up 35% from last year. Fortunately, in states like Texas, that number is not as high. Keep scrolling to check out the cheapest cities in the U.S. to buy a home right now. Which Texas city made the list?

San Antonio, Texas

The down payment on a house in present-day San Antonio, on average, is $46,000 - cheaper than most. Not bad for a beautiful city rich with colonial history, and famous for the Alamo, the River Walk, and more.

One particular home in San Antonio has a little something for everybody, including an underground cavern. Look below to take a peek inside.
