It may have been deep in the heart of Tennessee, but that didn’t stop City and Colour from paying tribute to one of their fellow Canadian countrymen, Neil Young, this past weekend at Bonnaroo.

Dallas Green’s band treated fans to a stellar performance, but the one surprise in the indie act’s set was their take on Young’s classic, ‘Like a Hurricane.’ The set closer left the audience on a high note, especially when Green introduced pedal steel player Eric Goldstein, who replicated some of Young’s wickedly bendy guitar licks from the song. This isn’t the first time Green has chosen to salute Neil Young, as he performed ‘Old Man’ as part of a four-song tribute to the legendary singer at the 2011 Juno Awards.

‘Like a Hurricane’ finished second in Ultimate Classic Rock’s Top 10 List of Neil Young love songs.

City and Colour, who continue to support their ‘Little Hell’ album, also played such audience favorites as ‘The Grand Optimist,’ ‘Weightless,’ and ‘Fragile Bird.’ Green, the former vocalist for Alexisonfire, founded the band in 2005 as a solo project to work out songs that didn’t fit within the Alexisonfire structure. He alternated between both projects until Alexisonfire’s split last year.
