It's almost Halloween, and what better way to bring it in than to talk about spirits and ghosts? Or better yet, communicate with spirits and ghosts. This can be done a few different ways but one that's more popular is holding a séance.

A séance is a meeting to receive spiritual communication. Before conducting one, it's a good idea to take some necessary precautions to make sure things stay safe and respectful. Spirit Halloween has a blog that lists important steps to follow before holding a séance but I had a couple I wanted to add. Plan on talking to spirits this Halloween? Try doing these things first.

Choose the Right Setting

Find a quiet area where you won't be disturbed. I'd pick a place that holds some significance to the spirit you're trying to contact.

Gather Up the Right People

A séance should be conducted with just a small group of open-minded and respectful people. It's important that everyone realizes the importance and is willing to follow rules.

Set the Mood

Dim the lights and burn candles to create a calm and focused atmosphere. Some people also like to burn incense or play soft music to help set the mood.

Choose a Medium

A medium is a person who usually leads the séance and communicates with the spirit world. This should be someone who is experienced and is no stranger to the process.

Set Ground Rules

Establish rules for the séance. No joking or disrespecting the spirits. It's important to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Prepare Mentally and Spiritually

Take some time to calm your mind and open yourself up to the experience. Some people like to say a prayer of protection before beginning.

Always Have a Backup Plan

If at any point things become uncomfortable or too intense, have a plan for ending it immediately.

A séance can be an awesome experience if it's done right. It's important to approach it with the right mindset and respect for the spirits. Remember that you are dealing with entities that may be aggressive. Be prepared and take the necessary steps to protect yourself and the others involved.
