With the autumn temperatures starting to fall, the action on the field is heating up. This week in college football features a key in-state Big Ten matchup, along with top 25 games in the Big 12 and Pac-12. Here are the highlights for this week’s key matchups.

Stephen Garcia, South Carolina’s troubled on-again/off-again quarterback, has been dismissed from the team following his latest violation of team rules. The fifth-year senior started 34 games for the Gamecocks, including four this year. However, he was benched for last week’s game in favor of sophomore Connor Shaw.

Just months after saying they would be joining the Big East, Texas Christian reversed course on Monday, announcing it had accepted an invitation to join the Big 12.

University of Arizona officials announced Monday night that they have fired head football coach Mike Stoops after seven-and-a-half years at the helm in Tucson. The Wildcats are off to a 1-5 start this year, with their lone win coming against FCS Northern Arizona. Dating back to last season, Arizona has lost 10 straight games to FBS teams by an average of almost 17 points per game.

Big 12 officials voted Thursday to invite Texas Christian University to be the league’s tenth team next year, replacing Texas A&M when they move to the SEC. The Horned Frogs are playing their last year in the Mountain West, and had prepared to move to the Big East next year, but TCU sources say they only need to finalize a few details and expect to announce their plans to join the Big 12 soon.
