Tonight (Feb. 11) had been surprisingly quiet in the rock world for a night right before the Grammy Awards, but that changed immediately with the shocking news of iconic pop star Whitney Houston’s untimely demise. The body of Houston, just 48 years old, was discovered at the Beverly Hills Hotel; attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. A cause of death has not yet been determined.
So many people pass away every year, including in the entertainment industry, that it’s hard to remember just who died, beyond the few very famous people. Turner Classic Movies has a nice montage that helps us remember the talents we’ve lost in 2011.
Songwriter and producer Paul Leka, who wrote the familiar chorus of the song ‘Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye),’ died of lung cancer on October 12 near his home in Sharon, Connecticut. He was 68 years old.
