Beach Boys Smile Sessions Release Date Announced – UPDATE OFFICIAL November 1st!

UPDATE The official date for the new 'Smile Sessions' album has been updated once again, but this time it's a firm date according to the Beach Boys and their label Capitol Records.  According to reliable source DirectCurrentMusic.com,

The release date is November 1st.

This set will feature for the first time, fully produced versions of 'Smile' recordings locked in the vaults since 1967. The album will be sequenced as Brian Wilson intended, using his solo version of 'Smile' as a guide.

There will be several versions available, from the basic double  cd set, to a digital download, to a  super deluxe version that has two vinyl lps, two vinyl 45s, and a 60-page book! I'm looking forward to that deluxe version, even though I know it will be pricey.

'Smile' was set to be the follow up to the legendary 'Pet Sounds' album, but was shelved by Brian Wilson due to his well documented drug problems and reported exhaustion during the intricate recording sessions. The picture you see at the top of the text is reportedly the art work for the new release, sourced from what would have been the original 1967 album cover approved by Brian.
