A lot of us deal with it every day. Whether it's taking the kids to school or going to work. If you drive around Abilene, it's certainly been on your mind. I mean, really. How can you miss it? I'm talking about the road construction on Buffalo Gap Road. I've been back in Abilene for a year now and it seems like it was going on back then too. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

Let me be upfront. This is not a complaint or even a gripe. Those hard-working folks who work out in the elements to pave the way for our cars to drive deserve kudos for sure. That's hard work. Just ask anyone who's ever done it for a living, especially in the summer. It's brutal. I appreciate the work they do.

This is simply a little rant. Not about the workers but for the lack of organization in traffic flow. I know I'm not the only one aggravated. The quickest way nowadays for me to get to work every day is to take Buffalo Gap Road to the Winters Freeway then straight down to South 1st.

Needless to say, I found out the hard way how intense Abilene traffic can get, especially in high-populated areas. Portions of the road were down to one lane while cars still tried pulling in front of traffic to get in line. There were cars everywhere and things were going slowly. Getting to work on time this day was not going to happen.

I may not know a whole lot about the subject of traffic control, but it just seems to me that the timing of the traffic lights should be adjusted to better accommodate the congested area. I also know cities that have road crews working overnight while traffic is at a minimum. That makes sense to me.

At the end of the day, when the Buffalo Gap Road project is complete, it'll be nice. No doubt about it. Until then I guess the craziness pursues and I need to find a new route. Hang in there Abilene drivers, better days are coming.

You've got to be careful on the road nowadays. Traffic can get nuts. Obey all the signs and traffic laws. If it's one thing Texas has, it's traffic laws. Some of them you may not be aware of as they're lesser known. Check out below and see how many you know about.
