I did a double take when I read the headline in this morning's Abilene Reporter-News. The city of Clyde and two concert promoters are planning a major concert venue that will hold up to 40,000 music fans. They're calling it 'The Back Porch Of Texas', and it's an ambitious project.

The proposed facility will feature three levels, including a 1,500 square foot dance floor and even VIP living suites. The cost is expected to be around $2 million, and the impetus is of course bringing major level performers to the Big Country. Mark Powell of Backporch Productions, one of the investors, says that 'with that kind of volume, we can get acts that you have to drive to Dallas or drive to Austin to see.'

The facility will be located near Clyde lake and the projected completion date for the stage portion of the facility is January of 2012. The remainder of the construction will continue after that, but stage completion will allow immediate bookings at the site. For more information, go to my source for this story at ReporterNews.com .
