Scientists are studying a theory that the earth used to have two moons. Hard to imagine isn't it? Looking up at the night sky and seeing two glowing orbs up there? The theory is that there once was a smaller moon, around about 4 billion years ago, there was a smaller moon orbiting the earth that was basically cannibalized by our current moon.

The theorists say that would explain why the far side of our moon is of much rougher, hillier terrain. They think that the roughness is comprised of remnants of the previous moon, which was drawn into a collision with the larger satellite by its stronger gravity. It's amazing what we can find out via current technology, telescopes, and brilliant science. Of course, it is only a theory.
