Paul Simon is 70 years old today, October 13th. His career has been a long and interesting musical journey. Simon & Garfunkel were a major force in 60s music and culture, tying together folk, the British invasion, and the singer-songwriter movement.

When they split in 1970, Simon continued his success as a solo artist. It wasn't just his musical talent, but his gift for clever, insightful, and sometimes political lyrics. He quickly became known as 'Rhymin' Paul Simon' in the 70s, with songs such as 'Kodachrome', 'Slip Slidin' Away', '50 Ways To Leave Your Lover' and 'Me And Julio Down By the Schoolyard' among others.

Last year Simon released a new album titled 'So Beautiful Or So What' which debuted at number 4 on the Billboard chart. It features a lot of the trademark pop sound that Simon was known for in the 70's as opposed to his recent efforts exploring African rhythms on albums like 'Graceland'.

Next year, Simon is planning a 25th anniversary edition of Graceland, along with an extensive tour featuring that large group of musicians. The man stays busy. Happy 70th birthday to Paul Simon. Check out a video for '50 Ways':
