I'm going to come clean. Cemeteries have always weirded me out a little bit. I don't know what it is. Even as a kid, I remember going to visit the graves of family members and feeling uneasy. I suppose they're harmless and many are set in very beautiful surroundings. Maybe it's all the spooky stories surrounding these final resting places. Did I watch too many horror movies growing up?

Driving by a cemetery the other day, I wondered if there's anything to all these graveyard stories you hear when you're younger. If there's a haunted cemetery in Texas, I wanted to learn about it and its history. Not only did I find what I was looking for, but I also hit the motherlode in the city of Austin. According to Austin Ghosts, this haunted burial ground dates back to the 1850s and is called by many the most haunted cemetery in the state of Texas.

The haunted Oakwood Cemetary in Austin spreads out over 40 acres of land and has over 23,000 bodies buried there. Perhaps that's why there's been so much paranormal activity witnessed. One of the spirits to look out for is that of 17-year-old Eula Phillips. She was murdered with an ax on Christmas Eve in 1885. Although Eula's husband was accused at the time, he was later cleared when other victims matching her likeness were discovered. The true murderer was never found.

As far as paranormal activity is concerned, reports include brightly colored orbs complete with an apparition of a young woman wailing as she roams the grounds. Physic mediums have sensed Eula's presence time and time again.

Who's up for a roadtrip? A good scare to get your blood pumping may be just what you need. The Oakwood Cemetary in Austin certainly appears like it would do the trick.
