Yes, I'll admit it, I'm a grandpa. One of my grandchildren just graduated from college. While I'm a very proud grandpa and would love to share photos and stories of my grandchildren, I'll save that for another time. The reason for this article is a conversation that came up about whether a person can find a job without a degree nowadays.

The obvious answer is yes, there are a lot of jobs you can land without a degree. If you want a higher-paying job, most require degrees. However, I recently ran across some interesting information from Stacker Media about the "average statistical numbers on Abilene jobs that do not require a degree." While many of these jobs may not require a college degree per se, some do require special licenses or training that you may have to attend a specialty school for.

Interestingly, the online publication Stacker.com recently compared Abilene jobs that do not require degrees to the same identical jobs across America that also do not require degrees. The eye-opening discovery came in the pay difference between Abilene and the rest of the United States.

Most importantly though, in my most honest, humble opinion, I believe that having a college degree is far better than not having one in today's world. Just stop and look around at how many job opening ads state that a degree of some sort is required.
