The Competition

Metallica held a "Metallica Marching Band Competition" in several brackets. They were divided into College Division 1, College Division 2 & 3, and High School large, medium, and small. In addition, there were Fan Favorite categories for both college and high school. All in all, Metallica stepped up to the plate to encourage these marching bands.

Our Neighbors

We have long rocked Eastern New Mexico and now Eastern New Mexico University is rocking us as the College Division 2 &3 winner! The band performed a medley of Metallica tracks led off by a bass solo by Nacho Perez (who I feel will be joining a major rock band before too long).  In addition, they wracked up over six thousand views with their entry. Check it out:

The Rest

Auburn took the college division one category. Then the aforementioned Eastern New Mexico University took college division 2 & 3. Large high school went to Dobyns-Bennett High School out of Kingsport Tennessee. Medium High School was a tie between Boerne High School from Boerne, Texas, and Malverne High School out of Malverne, New York. The small high school winner was Oakton High School out of Oakton, Virginia. Winning the fan favorites were Auburn and Boerne High School.

Here's Something Cool

There were over 450 entries for this contest. The fans voted for the fan favorites, but the rest were pared down by professional judges to five in each category. At that point, some of the actual members of Metallica selected the winners. It's just cool to think that some of the boys were watching the Eastern New Mexico University Marching Band. Oh, and there is also the $40K in prizes they won as well!
